Prayer Request

I recently stopped going to a church that I had attended for a few years because I don't feel that the pastor preaches in a way that reaches me. the only times I was able to get anything out of the sermon was when there was a guest pastor there they were all able to preach to me in a way that reached me. I grew up attending a Baptist Church so being at a Pentecostal church is a switch for me and it's difficult to fit in. though the church is very small with a small congregation and the people seem to be welcoming there seems to be lines drawn between the 12 non-Caucasian attendees and the rest. I don't want the devil to try to take this from me but I don't feel comfortable going to this church anymore because I do not feel I will get anything out of the sermon. for the last 2 months I have been watching church services on the television and just reading my Bible instead of attending the church with my mom. I miss going to church in general but I still don't feel a strong pull to go back to this church. am I wrong or is this the devil planting seeds or am I just a feeling something that I can't explain?

As I see it in the Bible it says not to forsake the fellowship of saints. It does not say do not forsake sermons. Therefore the gathering together of believers is not to be centered around a sermon but building up, encouraging, and loving people in Christ. This pleases God and when we do this we become lights to the world and we put our faith into practice so if the sermon is Bible based go to church not for the sermon but for godly fellowship.

i go to my church mainly
to pray and worship GOD.i get fed by reading the bible and listning to Charles Stanley. and other great Bible teachers. asking the Holy SPIRIT to lead me in all truth.i know what you mean.but take the pressure of of my pastor and people.feeding myself to grow in GODS word to become the child HE created me 2 be.don't let anyone or anything stop you from knowing as much as you can about the one person we will always have.even when everyone else is gone.what a privilege we have with GODS HOLY WORD.i want to know him more and more everyday to mold me into his likeness.boy do i fall short! But keep reaching up to his standards not the worlds.

I get what you are saying and I used to believe that was the purpose of church too but many things led me to seriously go back to the Bible and relook at the meaning of church. I agree the bible is essential for our growth but as I see it reading the bible, praying and worshipping God begins within oneself. So everyday through out each day we should be glorifying, praising, and seeking God so when we go to church it is primarily to fellowship with other believers and share with them and receive from the the love and wisdom and joy of God. If people just go to church primarily for a human sermon then the church is cold, uncaring, self centered, or impersonal.

Cont. This is not what God designed. God designed the church to be like a loving family or a single body where all the me.bers are different with very different functions but all connected and working cooperatively in sync witheach other. This can't happen if we juat go for a sermon. Fellowship is a time to communicate and put into active practice the word and love of God. Christians are often our own worst enemies because we replace loving fellowship with cold church. Anyway that is just my opinion that may be some food for thought. The bottom line I would say is continue reading your bible, praying, and watching pastor Stanley but go to church to encourage and be encouraged by your Brethren in Christ.
