Faith in Action

A faithful man will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished (Proverbs 28:20).

Scripture: Proverbs 28:20-28

How will we pay for groceries? we wondered. Early on in our youth ministry, we served at a small church in Arkansas. Our children were both young, and we were paid very little. Still, we loved the people, and they cared for us in many ways.

One Saturday we were traveling the 20 miles it took to get to a grocery store. Weโ€™d often write a check for groceries on Saturday, knowing my husband would get paid on Sunday, and we could have the check in the bank by Monday morning.

But on this day we felt guilty about it. Were we trusting the Lord to provide for us or taking matters into our own hands? We began shopping, but our hearts grew heavier. In a declaration of trust in God, we returned a cart full of groceries and went out to the car. When our then 4-year-old son asked why we left our food, we replied: โ€œGod is going to provide for us this week.โ€ After a silent trip home, we arrived wondering what to do when dinner time came.

We both began to cry and praise the Lord as we opened the door to the house: covering the entire kitchen floor were large bags of groceries!

Thank You, dear Lord, for Your provisions in my life. My faithfulness to You results in riches far beyond compare and a life lived in the secure promises of Your Word. O Lord, I believeโ€”but help me in my unbelief! In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, I pray. Amen.

A testimony of faith I like to share. Another believer shared this.

The point is that their need was met because they trusted in God! Doesn't matter how it got there. Sometimes God will impress on people to do a good deed. They put back the groceries and trusted Gid to provide. However the way it happen still the need was met. And they gave glory to God.
