Counting on My Prayers

Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many (2 Corinthians 1:11).

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 1:8-11

Song: "Praying Always"

Scottish minister Robert Murray McCheyne once said, "If the veil of the world's machinery were lifted off, how much we could find is done in answer to the prayers of God's children."

Many results are already known. When the table had been set but there was no food to serve, 19th-century evangelist George Mueller prayed for provisions to run his orphanage-and a baker soon showed up with bread for breakfast. Augustine, an early church father, credited his mother's prayers for his conversion after he'd led a promiscuous life as a youth. At the Christian community of Herrnhut in the 1700s, believers took hour-long turns praying around the clock. Their prayer meeting lasted over 100 years. During that time more than 300 missionaries went forth from there.

Our prayers are vital to the well being of others and to the propagation of the gospel. If we fail to pray, someone somewhere may be let down. So, are you adding your prayers to the "prayers of many" today?

Heavenly Father, I know Your hands respond to my prayers. Ministers, missionaries, and church teachers see positive results as I support them. May I help to uphold them by continuing to pray. In Jesus' name, amen.
